What this site is

An independent comparison of the guided 4×4 trips that run into Mangystau from Aktau, plus the practical information a visitor needs before booking one. We are not a tour operator, a travel agency or a seller of travel. We hold no bookings, take no payments and have no staff in Kazakhstan.

Every booking happens on the operator's own platform under their terms. If something goes wrong with a trip, the operator and the platform are who you deal with, not us.

Where the tour data comes from

Prices, group caps, durations, ratings, review counts, inclusions, age limits and cancellation terms are read directly off each operator's own listing and reproduced with the date they were read. Every tour page carries the same fields in the same order so the six trips can be compared line by line, and each one states its own price-check date.

The per-person figures on this site are arithmetic, not quotes: the listed vehicle price divided by the cap printed on that same listing. We show both numbers so you can check the division yourself.

How we handle a listing that contradicts itself

Two of the six listings carry a group badge that disagrees with their own price line — one is badged small group limited to 18 participants while charging per group up to 4, and another is badged limited to 9 while charging per group up to 3.

We print both figures rather than picking the flattering one, and we say which governs: the price line, because that is what the checkout charges. Where a listing is silent on something, the field reads that it is not stated rather than being filled with a plausible guess.

Where the regional information comes from

Geology, site names and the sacred-site dress code are checked against published references and recent first-hand visitor reports, then dated on the page. Mangystau's places carry several transliterations each — Bozzhyra, Bozjyra and Bozhyra are the same place — so we give the alternatives rather than pretending one spelling is canonical.

Seasonal temperature figures are long-term averages for Aktau on the coast, not a forecast, and we say so where they appear: conditions out on the plateau, away from the Caspian, run hotter in summer.

How traveller feedback is used

Review depth here is thin and we do not disguise it. Two of the six listings are marked New activity and carry no rating at all; the others hold 24, 5, 4 and 1 review respectively. Those counts are printed beside every rating on this site, because a 5.0 from one review is not a 5.0 from a thousand.

We quote reviews with the reviewer's first name, country and the month they travelled, exactly as published, and we do not edit them into something more flattering. We never write testimonials.

What we cannot verify

We do not drive the routes, camp on the plateau, meet the guides or audit vehicles, insurance or safety records. We cannot tell you whether the track to Bozzhyra is passable in the week you travel, whether a stated inclusion appeared on the day, or how many people will actually be in your car.

We also cannot see live availability or the price you will be quoted for your dates. The figures here are the listed prices at the time of the check; the number that matters is the one on the checkout page.

How affiliate links affect this

Links to tours are affiliate links. If you book through one, the platform pays a commission and you pay the same price you would pay going directly. The full arrangement is set out in the affiliate disclosure.

Commission does not decide which tours appear, the order they sit in, or what is said about them. The cheapest trip on the site earns the least and is the one recommended to travellers with one free day, and the most expensive listing carries the site's plainest warning that it has no reviews yet.

Corrections

Prices move, caps change and operators swap vehicles. If a number here is out of date, tell us what you found and when you were there. Corrections get made and the check date on the page is updated with them.
